Application for Serlachius Residency

WELCOME TO WORK AT THE ART TOWNThe Serlachius Residency is open to visual artists, art historians, researchers, journalists or curators. Work partners, artist groups and families can also apply for the residency. You can apply for a residency period with an electronic application form on this website. The selections are made by a jury consisting of a representative of the Serlachius and Mänttä Art Festivals and a rotating artist member.

The next application period for visits in residency in 2027 is open from 1 Feb to–31 Mar 2026

Residency periods

You can apply for the residency for a period of 1–4 months. No rent is charged for the residency period. Instead, residency guests are required to submit a written report on their stay and work in Mänttä. You can also attach images or videos to the report.

The persons selected for the residency are responsible for their own travel, work and living expenses as well as their insurance during the residency period.

If you are working on an exhibition, publication or thesis during the residency period, we hope that the support of the Serlachius Residency will be mentioned, for example, in a press release or foreword.

Exhibitions and events

Artists in residence can choose to organise an exhibition or event in the residency’s gallery space. They do not replace the final report, but can be part of it.

Organising exhibitions and events is voluntary and independent, and no rent is charged for the exhibition space. Exhibitions and events are organised in cooperation with the residency coordinator. The aim is to arrange supervision by the residency.

Collaboration and interaction

It is hoped that those working at the residence will be ready for interaction. Serlachius Residency organises a Friday coffee once a month, where the residency guests are invited to briefly introduce themselves and talk about their work. Local people interested in culture are invited to attend.

Possible seminars, exhibitions, public events, etc. situations in which residency guests are expected to be present and discuss their own work will be agreed upon in advance.
