The spaces begin to take shape

At the end of July it is already easy to grasp the shape of the new Gösta. In this picture you can see the main exhibition space that is at the beach side of the building. Work at the extension prceeds in a slightly different pace in different parts of the building. At the beach side, the installation of walls and windows is at good speed. As next  the floor between the office space and exhibition space will be casted in the midsection of the building. The floor of the part of the building that is at the top of the slope has been casted and the last glulam frames are being erected. Image: Juha Roponen

Glulam beam frame rises

By mid-May the erection of the glulam beam frame was begun. The building will contain about one hundred glulam beam girdles and each girdle will contain five separate glulam beam elements. Due to the multi-faceted shape of the building each girdle and each glulam beam element is of different size. The glulam beam elements will be delivered by Late-Rakenteet Oy that has specialized in challenging and unusual glulam constructions. Image: Juha Roponen

Casting the concrete foundation

In late March early April 2013 the foundation work was in progress. Since the museum is built on a gentle slope on several different levels, also the casting of the foundation is carried out in several stages. The dry and sunny late winter weather helped the builders in their foundation work. Photographer: Kaisa Ylinen
