Guided tours in Mänttä open the local history in a new way

Mänttä is a peculiar industrial small town, the development of which has strongly been labeled by the Finnish forest industry combine G.A. Serlachius Ltd.

For decades Mänttä was developed under the leadership of the company and the inhabitants of Mänttä learned to live at the foot of the paper mill's towering chimney stack. The forest combine took care of its employees' basic needs: food supply, healthcare and schooling. It provided the leisure activities and supported their sports and musical interests.

The company also wanted to make Mänttä an independent congrecation and municipality. This is why Gösta Serlachius commissioned the building of Mänttä church. The first land use plans were made by the company as well as the most beautiful buildings.
