Time of Stone
The leading role in the exhibition is played by Harry Kivijärvi (1931–2010). He was one of the most significant Finnish sculptors of his generation, whose modernist themes, carved in stone, contributed to the international success of Finnish sculpture in the 1960s and 1970s.
Kivijärvi was also a passionate art collector and Egypt enthusiast, and the exhibition also provides an opportunity to see the collection of objects he collected. Alongside Kivijärvi, Stone Age presents six Finnish contemporary artists, whose works highlight the versatile forms that stone can take in skilful hands. The Time of Stone is now!
The exhibition’s artists: Harry Kivijärvi & Maria Duncker, Timo Hannunen, Aaron Heino, Anne Koskinen, Laura Könönen and Ville Mäkikoskela. The curator of the exhibition is Laura Kuurne.
Collection Kivijärvi Foundation donated to Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation a significant art collection in spring 2012. It included 24 artworks by Kivijärvi created 1966–1987, as well as a collection of 64 artworks he had collected himself.
The entity goes by the name Collection Harry Kivijärvi. The sculptures that are included in this collection are exhibited in the park of the old manor at present. When accepting the donation, the Fine Arts Foundation also complelemented the collection by acquiring nineteen work by Kivijärvi, most of which belong to the early phase of his career ,as well as a socalled Egypt collection comprising 14 objects.
