Medical Records of a Small Town

Over the years, photographic artist Ville Lenkkeri photographed his father, the legendary Mänttä doctor Hannu Lenkkeri. After his father’s death in 2011, he continued by photographing all of the heritage that his father had left behind.

At the Serlachius Residency in summer 2015, he realised a project in which he invited the people of Mänttä once again to a “Lenkkeri consultation”. The locals responded to the invitation and arrived at Hannu Lenkkeri’s former study to tell stories, amusing tales and anecdotes about the late doctor.

From his photographs, own memories and these reminiscences, Ville Lenkkeri has fashioned a series of photographs covering the eccentric doctor of the small town, but also more generally the time continuum, the father-son relationship and a person’s often irreconcilable public and private roles.
